Driver dies of injuries after Appleton car wreck

A male elderly driver who was recently involved in a two-vehicle accident in the Appleton area has died of his injuries while being treated at a local hospital.

The victim was 85-year-old Richeld Pepin, an Appleton resident whose vehicle was struck by a van at the intersection of North Conkey Street and East Northland Avenue on Saturday, December 5. Initial reports revealed that Pepin was taken to the hospital immediately after the collision in which he sustained life-threatening injuries. According to investigators, Pepin was driving north on Conkey Street when the side of his vehicle was struck by the van traveling west on Northland Avenue at around 7:45 in the morning.

The driver of the van, who was only identified to reporters as a 37-year-old woman from Kimberly, was issued two citations after the investigation concluded: the first for operating after suspension, and the second for operating without insurance. The woman was not injured in the wreck.
