72K Subaru vehicles with braking system defect recalled in the US

Over 72,000 vehicles are being recalled by Subaru due to a defective braking system feature that may fail and increase the risk of injuries to occupants, an article on USA Today stated on June 26.

The recall reportedly affects several models of 2015 and 2016 Subaru vehicles that are equipped with a “Driver Assist System.” The braking system is designed to detect road obstacles and other vehicles, and avoid possible collisions. Subaru explained that the new braking system may fail to avoid a collision when any of the vehicle’s braking lights malfunction. The carmaker said that even if the automatic braking fails, drivers of the recalled vehicles may still use the brakes manually. Subaru stated that they will do a “software flash” to address the problem of the vehicles.
