28 teens died from road accidents in Wisconsin last year

Wisconsin’s Department of Transportation recently reported that road accidents claimed 28 teen lives and injured over 5,000 young people in 2013, reported on October 24.

Manitowoc Police Sergeant Bruce Jacobs stated that factors like inexperience, in addition to intoxicated driving, excessive speeding and distracted driving, increases the risk of teenage involvement in car accidents. Sgt. Jacobs stressed that easy access to alcohol is a still a “big problem.” Lisa Geiger of Manitowoc Advantage Driving School also wanted teens to understand the importance of putting down their cellphones while driving. Geiger pointed out that drivers aged 16-19 are the most likely demographic to cause vehicular accidents. This report highlights the importance of defensive driving and reminds parents to set a good example.
