Tips for avoiding deer accidents this fall

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is asking drivers to be aware of increased deer activity during October and November.

These months are mating season for deer, meaning they will be much more active as they travel from where they feed to where they sleep.

Deer are most active at dusk and dawn. The Department of Transportation offers the following advice for avoiding a deer collision:

  • Avoid distractions. Always be alert when driving in areas that are known to have heavy deer traffic.
  • Brake when you see a deer in your path. Do not swerve out of the way.
  • Scare deer you see on the side of the road by honking at them.

Last year, Wisconsin officials reported more than 18,000 deer collisions. The car accident attorneys of Habush Habush & Rottier S.C. ® urge Wisconsinites to be cautious of deer on the roadways.
