DOT raises awareness of distracted driving

April has been named the National Distracted Driving Awareness Month by the United States Department of Transportation to promote safe driving practices, such as avoiding cellphone use while driving.

Several states, including Wisconsin, have already passed laws banning cellphone use for certain drivers and/or in certain areas, such as in construction or school zones. In November, a new state law will go into effect that will ban new drivers from using their cellphones at all.

A new national law was passed this year that banned all commercial truck, bus, and other fleet drivers from using handheld cellphone devicesĀ  behind the wheel. Drivers could be charged $2,750 per violation and companies could face fines of up to $11,000.

If you or someone you love has been injured in an accident caused by a distracted driver, contact the reckless driving lawyers of Habush Habush & Rottier, S.C. by calling 800-242-2874.
