Man sentenced to prison for fatal truck accident

A 37-year-old man from Missouri was recently sentenced to spend five years in prison for causing a fatal accident in Belgium, Wisconsin in 2009.

The man was working as a truck driver at the time of the accident and had been driving a semi-truck for several days prior to the crash. On the day of the accident, several lanes on I-43 had been shut down due to construction, causing traffic to move extremely slow and become stopped. Prosecutors in the case allege that the man was either asleep at the wheel or not paying attention to the road when he crashed into two vehicles that were stopped on the highway, causing the deaths of an 80-year-old woman and 78-year-old man.

The judge deciding the case stated that it was a difficult decision because the man did not intend to hurt anyone. However, he was convicted of two counts of homicide with the negligent use of a vehicle and reckless driving. Aside from spending five years in prison, the man was also ordered to pay restitution to the families of the victims of the accident.
