Family of Hit-and-Run Victim Seek Tougher Punishment for Driver

The family of a young man who suffered a serious brain injury after he was hit by a driver has recently brought the case back to court in order to enact a stricter punishment against the driver, who was caught speeding while on probation for the crime.

The accident occurred in 2009. A woman who was going over 20 miles per hour over the speed limit and talking on her cell phone, hit the 18-year-old man with her car. She then drove away without stopping to call police or check on the man. He suffered a brain injury and has permanent memory loss.

The court hearing is coming after the woman was pulled over for speeding this year. The court will decide if the woman violated her probation by speeding. She will face sentencing at the end of April.
