New Drunk Driving Laws Are Unyielding

A bill in Connecticut, known as O’Brien’s bill, would force anyone suspected of driving while drunk, even if they are injured, to take a blood or urine test immediately following the accident. Prior to this bill, drunk drivers who were admitted to hospitals due to injuries suffered during an accident were not tested while still at the hospital, which allowed time for evidence of alcohol in the driver’s system to be lost.

The bill was written after a 15 year-old was killed in a car accident that was caused by a police officer who had been drinking. Many people arguing in favor of the bill say that it will speed up the process for drunk drivers to be arrested and stand trial, and it will bring more justice to victims of drunk driving accidents.
