State trooper killed in drunk driving accident

Wisconsin State Police report that one of their officers was killed in a traffic accident Sunday evening around 8:38 p.m.

The 29-year-old officer was responding to a call for assistance from a fellow trooper. As he was headed westbound on Highway 47,  a 49-year-old man driving a pickup truck entered the highway from a side road directly in front of the officer, causing a collision that killed the officer instantly.

A witness to the crash said that the pickup truck driver did not have his lights turned on. Officers arriving at the scene subjected the truck driver to a breathalyzer test and found his blood alcohol level to be over double the legal limit.

The driver was arrested on suspicion of homicide by intoxicated use of a motor vehicle. The Green Bay drunk driving accident was a shock to locals and officials.

He leaves behind a sister, his parents, and his wife of two years.
