Driver Arrested After Hitting, Killing Child

Police have arrested a 19-year-old man who driving a van that hit and killed a 9-year-old boy who had accidentally snowboarded into the road.

The 9-year-old boy had been staying with his grandparents at their farm in Jackson County over Christmas, and had been snowboarding in the area. He accidentally skidded over an embankment and into the road, where he was struck by the van. Emergency responders life flighted the boy to an area hospital, where he passed away.

Police arrested the driver of the van for Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Detectable Amount of a Controlled Substance. No formal charges have been pressed.
