About 5:30 Tuesday night, a 12-year-old boy was involved in a fatal crash with a truck while riding his bike in Shawano County Town of Waukechon. According to authorities, the boy died of his injuries in hospital Wednesday.

The 19 year-old driver of the truck suffered minor injuries. The 12-year-old was exiting a driveway on Lark Road when the accident occurred.

Authorities are still investigating the crash.

According to authorities, a 22-year-old Fon du Lac woman was struck while riding her bicycle by a hit-and-run driver this Wednesday while riding southbound on North Brooke Street.

The incident occurred around 4:45 p.m. The driver of the vehicle was an older, heavy-set man. The car was described as blue and rusted.

“We are seeing a lot more people riding bikes,” Deputy Chief Kevin Lemke Lemke said. “It is healthier, and when gas prices go up and the economy is down, people ride bikes to save money. Whenever you have a lot of bikes and cars trying for the same real estate, there will be accidents. Unfortunately, the bicyclist is going to lose,” he continued.

Drivers should be more cautious when it comes to cyclists as the summer months begin.
