Jeep issues recall of 228K SUVs worldwide

Jeep voluntarily recalled over 228,000 Cherokee SUVs worldwide due to a problem with the airbags that may increase the risk of injury, a February 3 article of syracuse.com reported.

According to reports, the 2014 and 2015 Jeep Cherokee SUVs are equipped with side airbags that may deploy even without a collision. Fiat Chrysler explained that when operated primarily in off-road conditions, the side airbags may deploy if the driver suddenly changes the direction of the vehicle. Though these incidents of unintentional airbag deployment reached the manufacturer, they are reportedly unaware of injuries or accidents involving the recalled SUVs. Dealers will fix the problem by replacing the software in the vehicles.
