Snowmobile accidents claim two lives

Posted on Thursday, February 23rd, 2012 at 1:58 pm

Two snowmobile accidents that occurred last weekend claimed two lives in Langland County and Dodge County.

A 58 year-old woman was killed after her snowmobile struck a tree. Sheriff’s deputies declared her dead at the scene and do not believe alcohol was a factor in her death.

Six people plunged into open water while riding on Beaver Dam Lake on Saturday night, sending four people to the hospital. A 45 year-old man who was taken to the hospital later died.

Officials at the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Conservation urge people to stay off of Beaver Dam Lake because it is extremely unstable.

Thousands of police cruisers recalled by Chrysler

Posted on Thursday, February 16th, 2012 at 1:41 pm

Chrysler Group, LLC is recalling nearly 10,000 Dodge Charger police cruisers due to electrical defects, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Possible issues in the anti-lock break functions and low-beam headlights are the cause for the recall. The automaker believes overheating in the bulb harness connector could cause headlight problems. The overheating could also negatively affect the anti-lock break and electronic stability control functions.

There have been no reports of accidents or injuries in relation to these defects. Chrysler will start accepting 2011 and 2012 police Dodge Chargers next month and will repair them for free.

High school students killed in Campbellsport crash

Posted on Thursday, February 9th, 2012 at 5:34 pm

A fatal car accident in Ashford has claimed the lives of three teenage girls.

An 18 year-old student at Campbellsport High School was driving eight of her friends in her SUV early Saturday morning when she lost control of her vehicle, causing it to roll several times. Two girls were pronounced dead at the scene, and another died at the hospital the next day.

Four teenagers are in critical condition, and two are in satisfactory condition. Officers said some of the girls were ejected from the vehicle because they were not wearing their seat belts. The girls were members of the varsity and junior varsity teams. Parents say the girls were having a sleep over that night.

Our thoughts are with the families and friends of the girls affected by the accident.

Death toll in Florida crash reaches 11

Posted on Friday, February 3rd, 2012 at 3:07 pm

The death toll of a major highway pile up has been increased to 11 after investigators found another body in a burned pickup truck.

Extremely low visibility due to smoke from brush fires and dense fog are believed to be major factors in the collisions. A dozen cars, six tractor-trailers, and a motor home collided on Interstate 75 in Gainesville, Florida early Sunday morning. At least 18 people were taken to the hospital.

So far investigators, with help from anthropologists from the University of Florida, have identified eight of the deceased. The crash caused cars to burst into flames and several vehicles were trapped under the bellies of the tractor-trailers.

Our deepest sympathies are with the families and friends of those affected by this crash.
